I finally managed to get it to work, by doing this:
./VLC ~/work/Preview1713420.trp
:sout='#transcode{acodec=a52}:
standard{access=file,mux=ts,url=Preview1713420_transcoded.trp}'
--noloop --intf dummy vlc:quit
