[vlc] mozilla plugin CPU utilization

Hi,
I'm having some trouble using the vlc mozilla plugin in both Firefox
1.0.4 and Mozilla 1.7.8. When trying to access a page with an embedded
movie (not limited to a specific codec as far as I can tell), my CPU
utilization jumps to 100% and when the movie does play (it doesn't
always) it can be quite jerky. I can play these same files with the
regular player without this effect at all.
I compiled vlc with the following commands:
$XPIDL="/usr/lib/mozilla-1.7.8/xpidl" ./configure --prefix=/usr
--enable-mozilla --enable-ffmpeg
--with-ffmpeg-tree=/usr/local/src/ffmpeg/ffmpeg/
$ XPIDL="/usr/lib/mozilla-1.7.8/xpidl" make
$ sudo make install
In an attempt to narrow this down I have copied a short movie onto a
local apache server but the same thing happens. The sample file takes
about 30% CPU when played from the command line and is perfect, but
when played from within Firefox or Mozilla takes 100% and is very
jerky.
Any help appreciated.
Cian
