I've got a working ALSA supported card and verified surround51 capability.
The CM8738 supports 6ch 48kHz 16bit, which is what I expect VLC to use.
With all sources I've tested so far, it works for Xine and fails for VLC.
Example symptom:
First, I force the mono soundtrack ...
> [00000399] a52 decoder: A/52 channels:1 samplerate:48000 bitrate:96000
> No accelerated IMDCT transform found
Then, I force the 6 channel soundtrack ...
> [00000403] a52 decoder: A/52 channels:6 samplerate:48000 bitrate:448000
> No accelerated IMDCT transform found
Then, I switch from the stereo audio device to the 5.1 selection ...
> [00000280] alsa audio output error: unable to set stream sample size \
> and word order (Invalid argument)
> No accelerated IMDCT transform found
The audio output stays in stereo (not surprisingly, given the error).
There is no crash, but I'd be happy to force one if it would assist.
Runtime environment is Debian/Testing with the following versions:
ii vlc 0.8.1-1 multimedia player for all audio and video
ii vlc-plugin-alsa 0.8.1-1 ALSA audio output plugin for VLC
ii wxvlc 0.8.1-1 wxWindows frontend for VLC
Is this a known limitation of the ALSA plugin for VLC ?
Or, is there a configuration option I'm supposed to be forcing ?
Thanks,
Alex.
