Excellent i will give this a try this afternoon.
Whats the best way to install? Grab the .deb and install by hand, or add sources for unstable and install via apt?

vlc has recently been withdrawn from Debian Testing because of a
dependency problem. It is in Debian Unstable though. I'm using the
package from Sid on a Sarge without problems.
