i have tried many varations of the command line and have not been able to
get it to work. i am using a different socket name from the first i used.
i also tried sending it to the users home directory that vlc is running
under in case it was a permission issue but it still doesn't work. i am
really stumped with this.

i am also at a loss as to what this debug message means. i would normally
assume that fd 0 means my first floppy drive.
can you describe the workaround you mentioned? what did you mean by using a
second config file?
