I'm doing the same thing now and I'm using CURL to forward calles to VLC
from the webpages.
A new VLC version have a nativel support for CGI but I didn't find any
documentation for that.

Subject: [vlc] http-interface and databases
Hi everyone..
I'm making a small interface to control the VLC(exactly to control the
VLM) using the http-interface, changing something in the pages into
the /share/http/ directories..
Well I'd like to add interactivity with daatabases like mysql; but I
know that http-interface hasn't support for php pages...
Can anyone tell me how I can do this interactivity???
THanks in advance
