[vlc] How to run without GUI?

Hello,
I am new to VLC. This seems to be an easy question but I could not find
an answer online. I want to use VLC to stream content. I want to run
VLC on my server. When I run VLC from the command line, it attempts to
open a graphical user interface in X. I get the typical "Gtk-WARNING
**: cannot open display:" error. The simple command line I am using is:

vlc -vvv stream.ts --sout
'#standard{access=http,mux=ts,url=10.0.1.197:8080}'

What option do I need to pass to VLC to prevent it from attempting to
open an xwindows interface?

Thanks,
-angus
