[vlc] How is H.264 indicated?

Hello,

Does vlc use 'mp4v' in the 'stream information' window
to indicate an H.264 video?

I am having some trouble convincing someone else that vlc
can play H.264 because the stream information never
explicity says H.264. Some other players show 'H.264' as
the stream type.

Is there some standard naming system that various players
use to show the video format?

Also, I know that vlc's video decoder (libavcodec from
ffmpeg, right?) can decode the H.264 Baseline profile
but could someone please confirm this?

And the reason that vlc's H.264 support is marked
'experimental' on the webpage is because ffmpeg does not
yet implement the entire H.264 spec, right?

Thanks,
- Harshal
