VSSH is also used.  Varying capitalization is also to be expected.

I wouldn't call it a standard.  It's something used by AVI files.
Quicktime also uses four-byte codes, but they are not always the same
as those found in AVI.  Most other formats use entirely different
means of indicating the codec.  How the players represent the
information internally, and how they present it to the user, is yet
another independent matter.
