[vlc] Possible to do VOD using HTTP streaming?

I'm trying to determine if there's anyway to do VoD using HTTP streaming
instead of RTSP. (Since for some reason, I can't get mplayer to play any
of VLC's rtsp streams.)

Does Mplayer only know about RealMedia's RTSP streams?? This should not
be the case right? Does anyone know?
