[vlc] How to play simple @ L1 MPEG4ES?

foo.m4v: MPEG sequence, v4, video, simple @ L1

produced by ffmpeg.

I can play it with mplayer and ffplay.  However, using
VLC 8.2 all I get is "nothing to play".

I am apparently unable to devine the correct options to
play this file.

Anyone have any suggestions?
