[vlc] Append file to playlist from command line

does anyone know a command line option to append a file to the
playlist of a running instance of videolan?

for instance, with Totem you can do

totem playlist.txt
totem --enqueue movie.mpg

and movie.mpg will be appended to the playlist of the first running
instance without interrupting the playback.
