[vlc] codecs and streaming

Hi everyone,

I am using vlc 0.8.4a on Windows XP. I have read onto the documentation
that vlc uses only its own codecs; is there a way in order to add other
codecs (e.g. that one in c:\windows\system32\)? I noticed that vlc can read
a set of video/audio format, but when it has to stream a file compliant to
that set, sometimes it cannot stream. Looking at messages I read some error
about packetizer (see below); so the question is: which codecs are suitable
for streaming?

 

 

 

Below some error listed when vlc cannot strema a file using a compliant
encoding (i.e Cinepack):

main error: cannot add this stream

main error: cannot create packetizer output (cvid)

main error: cannot add this stream

main error: cannot create packetizer output (s16l)
