[vlc] Source stretch / overlay

Hi Videolan folks.

I'm hoping someone can help me with this:

On my computer I have a projector (854x480) and a monitor (1440x900).
The drivers for my GeForce 6600 have a neat feature - When a video is played
on the monitor, it plays simultaneously full screen on the secondary display
(the projector).
Unfortunately, when playing a DVD it always switches the projector
resolution to 640x480 to display the fullscreen video. I assume because the
it's closest to the DVD's resolution of 720x480. At this point the projector
can be set to stretch it out to 854 pixels wide again, but this squishing
and stretching is throwing away precious pixels.
When playing a bigger source, it tends to try to switch the projector to
unsupported sizes, and nothing displays.

So what I would like to do is stretch the source bits out to 854. Note that
I don't mean just resizing the window and stretching out the render surface.
I mean doing a stretch filter on the source bits before they're even
submitted to the overlay system.

Is this possible, and if so how?

Angus Graham.
