[vlc] how to to turn off error messages?

VLC keeps offering to repair my AVIs, and I keep getting error  
messages while playback ("seeking too far", e.g.), even though the  
videos play just fine.

Repairing doesn't work, and I am not going to buy a new camera to  
produce error-free AVIs.

How can I turn off all these error and informational messages?
"Don't show this again" would be great, but it isn't persistent  
across sessions.
I really just want VLC to play the stuff without it getting in the way.
