[vlc] Problems with VLC

I am now having a problem with VLC .0.8.6, and was hoping that someone 
can help me out here on this one...

When starting vlc it says this...

*** Stack smashing detected ***: VLC terminated Aborted (core dump)...

Might anyone no of a fix to this problem...???
