You should have a look at:
https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/changeset/20030

This changeset adds a new hotkey. So you'll basically need to edit the
same files in the same way.

Feel free to ask other question you might have. (Btw, this kind of
questions should be sent to vlc-devel at videolan.org)
