[vlc] Hacking VLC - Adding Hotkey - Clues

Hi All,
Wondering if anyone here will know where to begin to add a new hotkey
support into VLC.

The hotkey I'm looking for is to be able to control the Audio mixer
feature of changing/downmixing(or upmixing??) left mono / right mono
into both left/right speakers.

This is very useful for Asians where Karaoke is predominant.

eg: 
Left - Vocal + Music
Right - Music Only

Where do I start looking?

I know the hotkey.c file, but I'm looking to determine which is the
function call that gets the left/right feature in the menus.
