[vlc] streaming question

When you do "netstat -ant | grep LISTEN" on the server, do you see that 
the server listens on port 8080.
Start vlc with -vvv option and post the output to the list.
Witch version of vlc do you use on the client and on the server?
 From where does the stream cames(what type of device)?
