Hello Jacques,

the VideoLAN Team almost entirely consists of volounteers working on  
VLC in their spare time. So, they provide binaries for each OS they  
use. There is no regular Ubuntu-user in our team that I know of, so we  
can't provide "official" binaries for Ubuntu and need to refer Ubuntu  
users to the respective Multiverse-servers.

In case that you know an interested maintainer for Ubuntu, feel free  
to let us know.
