Hello Development Team,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for a great product. VLC is by far the
best video (and multimedia) player on any platform. With that said, I would
like to ask you why it is so difficult to obtain the latest version for
Ubuntu linux? I have been using Ubuntu for a few months now and have noticed
that it is practically impossible to find the latest build: either in the
multiverse repositories (currently topped at version 0.9.4) or as a deb file
(either on http://www.getdeb.net/ or anywhere else on the internet). I know,
you may be thinking "well just compile it if you want the new version", but
that in my opinion, that response is a) a bit condesending and b) not
practicable. Compiling software for one's system is usually fraught with
challenges that most of the time can not ever be overcome (just last night I
was trying to compile Brutal Chess for my system and had errors that
practically could not be overcome...). I feel that either an actual
repository for VLC should be given on the VLC homepage (rather than simply
telling users to "check that a "multiverse" mirror is listed in your
/etc/apt/sources.list" - which invariably only lets them install version
0.9.4), or a deb file for the 32 and 64 bit versions of the newest releases
of Ubuntu, or both. If not, the newest version available is effectively
0.9.4 rather than 0.9.8.

I would appreciate a response.

Again, thank you for the fine product,
