[vlc] Status of Søren Bøg's SoC 2007 Project - Dynamic Video Overlays

Hello,

I'm working on a project using java and jvlc to basically simulate and
preview a cable set top box experience, that will involve some simple
overlays.

Target OSes are Windows and Mac OS X (with my own personal goal of Linux -
which shouldn't be hard to meet if I can use jvlc).

My current plan of attack for the video overlay portion is, just to use
non-hardware accelerated video playback (i.e. not using DirectShow or
similar hardware accelerated video output modules), and overlaying a panel I
can put widgets on overtop the video.

Of course, being able to support hardware acceleration video output would be
great to have, so I am curious what the current status of the 'Dynamic Video
Overlays' project is. From reading the SoC 2007 Project Dynamic Video
Overlays page<http://wiki.videolan.org/SoC_2007_Project_Dynamic_Video_Overlays>,
it appears that this code lies partially completed, and uncommitted.

So, my question is:
How far along is this project in terms of it's completion?

A followup would be - Where can I find the code to poke around with?

Should I be posting this on the vlc-devel mailing list? I hesitated to do
that initially, as I didn't want to contribute to lowering the SNR.

BTW - Great job with the current progress of VLC 0.9.0 -- it's looking
great!
