[vlc] Freezing frame from udp stream on screen?

I know that you can take a "snapshot" of pretty much any video stream 
from the VLC UI...

If VLC is presenting a UDP stream (e.g. "vlc udp://@239.255.0.1"), is 
there any way to "freeze" the presentation so that the 
most-recently-displayed frame stays up on the screen?  If so, is there 
any way to do it through the "rc" interface?
