Just to be more specific:
The behavioral differences amongst the recent versions of VLC when playing
one particular AVI video:
VLC 0.8.6i complains about broken video file. When VLC is allowed to
rebuild it, video plays OK. Video plays OK even if file is not rebuilt.
VLC 0.9.1 complains about broken video file. When VLC is allowed to
rebuild it, it behaves as if it was playing the file (the slider moves),
but there is no picture in the window. The size of the VLC window does not
change. This behaviour is the same when the VLC is allowed to rebuild the
file.
VLC 0.9.2 behaves the same as 0.9.1
Another particular AVI file:
VLC 0.8.6i plays the file OK.
VLC 0.9.* plays the file but complains about not supporting "mp4a" format.
All tested versions were compiled from their respective sources on the same
RHEL5 x86_64 system.
Cheers
Frank
