VLC FAQ (http://www.videolan.org/doc/faq/en/index.html#id399822)
describes the path to vlcrc as |$(HOME)/.vlc/vlcrc

I'm using opensuse 11.1 with vlc 1.1.0 yellow bastard. It seems that the
path has changed to
||$(HOME)/.config/vlc/vlcrc

Maybe this is noteworthy
