[vlc] please help...?

Hello,
I have searching your forums and faqs and knowledge bases for over 4hours
now and cannot find the answer to my question.
I know you are all very busy but I thought I would try asking anyway before
giving up.

It is simple really, I am running VLC 0.9.10 on my MAC PowerbookG4. ALL that
I want to do is play my video on the desktop as a wallpaper. There are
countless tutorials and explanations to do this but it seems they are only
for the pc versions.
Nowhere in the preferences can I find the so called "Directx" option.
None of the explanations that I have found seem relevant to the way the
menus are configured on the mac version and the options mentioned simple do
not show up.

I am hoping , in the xmas spirit, you could help me so that i can continue
enjoy this wonderful program and continue genuinely pushing "free (as in
fsf.org) " software to all my friends...
