[vlc] JVC question

I have a JVC Everio S GZ-MS100 Flash Memory Camcorder.  It videos to a 16gb
SDHC memory card.  The file output has an ending (.mod).  If I manually
rename the ending to (.mpg) then I can view it using VLC through the use of
my usb card reader.  But this gets tedious.  Do you have any plug ins which
will allow VLC to automatically play the (.mod) format without my having to
go through the file ending renaming process?
