[vlc] Problems with vlc-0.9.8a

hi

I am experiencing problems with the new vlc-0.9.8a. When i double-click to play a video file it takes long to upload, then when it eventually appears and starts playing, it gives me a black picture for 5 seconds or so into the file. the picture also randomly freezes and blacks once or twice out for 5 seconds during playback without the audio being affected. I am using windows vista with 1 gig ram and a 1.8ghz dual core pentium processor so i doubt that the problem.

Any assistance on how to solve this problem would be appreciated.
