[vlc] 'Settings' in VLC Media Player

I have used VLC Media Player for a long time and am very pleased with it.  Thank you!  

But now I want to increase the brightness and colour rendering of some files from a home camcorder.  All the instructions on the Web tell me to start by going to the 'Settings' heading on the VLC Player, but there is no such heading.  I see only:
  Media  Playback  Audio  Video  Tools  View  Help.   
I have checked on FAQ and can find nothing relevant to my problem.

Please help!
