It was removed for technical reasons. Version 1.0.2 is still available
in a 64bit variant from the download section for older releases.

However, it is absolutely alright to use 32bit versions of VLC on Mac
OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard even when using the 64bit kernel. There is
little speed improvement by using a 64bit build, but much more bugs
which are still unfixed.
