[vlc] unable to play WMA files

I have looked in the forums but have not found a clear answer.
 
VLC will not play WMA files. It plays them but there is no sound. All other
files formats work great.
I installed the most recent version. I also have Windows Media Player
version 11.
Any help would be great appreciated.
