[vlc] .wmv files

.wmv files attached to email will not open using VLC by double clicking.  The attached file can be opened if copied to my desktop and then double clicked, but this is cumbersome.  Can you help?

Also, how do it make Windows Media Player the default rather than VLC, if I choose to do that?

I run Windows XP Home, VLC Qt4 Interface with compiler gcc Ver.4.2.1.
