[vlc] PLAYER PROBLEM

hello.
i just installed,& started using the VideoLAN-VLC media player 1.0.0 through speedbit video downloader.
your player doesn't seem to work.no matter what type of file i play(.flv,.mp4,.wmv,.avi,.mpg,.mpeg,other) i only hear sound,but the screen is just black.i thought it might be brightness,but my screen is at 100% brightness.
what's causing this?
please help.
