[vlc] Mac bug/flaw

hey guys I have been using VLC for years and I just started running a 2 monitor system and have noticed I can't make vlc full screen on one monitor without blacking out the other.
I am running this under mac and have found that when the green button is pressed vlc will "zoom" to the right size .... well then I have the top and bottom bar in the way.
well I removed the top and bottom bar ( show/hide controller )  and now I need to know what to do to invoke the green button .... I have tried "z" but it throws it into fullscreen and blacks out my other screen.

hope all this makes sense.....  so what is the key combo / work around for invoking the green window button when you don't have it ?

Hitting Z will make vlc go into full screen  NOT zoom  ( when you have "don't show controller on video screen" )
