[vlc] Soundtrack problem

Hi
I have been using Videolan for some time and it's a brilliant program, many thanks.
Yesterday I went to use it and the soundtrack was distorted, I worked out that the sound is playing twice at almost the same time. I uninstalled it and installed the latest version and it is doing exactly the same thing. Have tried it on AVI and wav files and all areb the same.
When I play files through Windows Media Player the sound is correct.
Please could you help?
