[vlc] Play an iso file

It seems to me that some time ago VLC was able to play iso files of
audio CDs and DVDs. I cannot get the latest version 1.0.x to play
them. Was this once a feature, and does it still exist? Was it maybe a
distro feature? I am currently on the latest stable Kununtu, but have
used Fedora and Windows in the past.
