There is no beta program as of yet. You're welcome to download a nightly build from nightlies.videolan.org to see if it solves your issues. 

VLC 1.0.6 is a Linux and *BSD only release. The next version available for download for Windows and Mac OS X is 1.1, which will be released pretty soon.
