Gonna top-post here for simplicity.  I assume you guys are trying
to run in fullscreen mode.

How did you switch to fullscreen ?  Did you use <F11> or 'f' ?
F11 should give you a console in fullscreen whereas 'f' should show
a smaller console and then have it disappear after a second or two.
If you're using <F11>, try 'f' instead - if you're already using 'f',
I have no suggestion other than a well documented bug report.
