[vlc] Free.fr vs vlc?

I installed vlc 1.1.6 on a friend's computer in Ardeche so she could play 
video files, DVDs, and audio tracks easily.  She liked it immediately. 
Easy, effective, comprehensive ... what's not to like?

But it caused free.fr's adsl-tv to stop working.  According to free.fr, 
adsl-tv works correctly only with version 0.8.6f; and indeed, when I 
uninstalled 1.1.6 and installed the current version of adsl-tv -- 
supposedly with vlc 0.8.6f bundled -- the TV software worked again. 
However, vlc is no longer on her desktop and she can't find it.

I'll fix the "can't find it" problem and make sure she can watch her video 
files again without disturbing her live TV, but can someone tell me more 
about this?
