[vlc] Unable to get audio but video plays

Hi

I am using VLC version 1.0.6 on Ubuntu 10.04 , While trying to open a 
file i am only getting the video but audio does not play.

Codec information:

Audio:
codec:mp4a
channels:2
sample rate : 44100 Hz
Bits per sample : 16
Bitrate : 1411 kb/s

Let me know how do i make it work.
