One things I've noticed about the Mac OS X port of VLC over the years  
is that it
doesn't ever seem to be fully functional. There are lots of little  
things that just
don't work, or cause VLC to crash if you enable them. I've given up on  
ever
getting them fixed since seeing people write about them over the years  
on this
list gets a generally rude reception from the developers (or whoever  
responds
from the VLC team) so I just assume they don't really care too much  
about the
Mac OS X port.
