Hi Jabir,

One good start could be to choose an easy ticket from the bug tracker,
especially a bug to fix.
There's no "howto hack vlmc" so feel free to do whatever you want and
submit patches ! Don't hesitate to ask for some help through the
mailing list or on irc.
