Nice. I made proper patch using "svn diff" out of it:
http://www.ee.oulu.fi/%7Etuukkat/tmp/x264-r177-noimb.patch
Can you elaborate when this feature would be useful? It looks to me that 
for x264 end-user it might not be very useful (unless it improves video 
encoding). Might be useful in (my) research, though.
