[x264-devel] x264 + high res + high rate

Hi

I am trying to use x264 to encode 3840x1080 sequence @ 45Mbps with x264 with the following command line:

x264.exe --preset slow --bitrate 45000 --fps 25 --verbose -o sequence_3840x1080_25fps.mkv sequence_3840x1080_25fps.yuv 3840x1080

For some reason VLC is not able to play this back. Looking at the "Messages" in VLC shows dropped frames. I am unable to tell if this is related to the encoding or VLC unable to handle the high rates. I do have other sequences encoded at very high rate & such resolutions which VLC can decode no problem so I doubts its related to VLC.

I have tried several other rates (down to 25Mbps) but I have the same issue, after playing the 1st few frames VLC starts stuttering and eventually stops. I even tried multipass with other settings:

x264.exe -p 1 --ref 2 --b-adapt 1 -B 25000 --frames 500 ....

but same result. If I use 1920x1080 I dont have any issues.

Anyone bump into this can point me to what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks,

-Purvin
