[x264-devel] buffer size for qcif video ?

hi, every one, i'm a begginer on video coding programming, i wanna read a
color qcif yuv file sequence using c++, i've read from some code that define
a buffer for qcif equal to 38016, it value come from 176*144*1.5 , i dont
understand what it 1.5 value means? could anyone help me ? and there is some
book or tutorial to follows about video processing using c++? thanks
