Some players will use the container aspect ratio.

Others will use the H.264 stream aspect ratio.

Others will use whichever is set, and ignore the other if it isn't.

Yet others will vary based on the phase of the moon.

I don't think there's a hard requirement, and if there is, certainly
some players don't listen anyways.
