I think that's what I'm missing Lawrence.
Is the subpicture stream present/interleaved with the data I'm already dumping to the FIFO and it's just a matter of telling the decoder to switch streams, or is this something that happens at the libdvdnav level (like calling a libdvdnav function that changes what is being written to the FIFO)?
Sorry if I'm explaining this poorly, it's all very new to me and I'm still learning the vocabulary.
