I disagree. (And agree with Felix)

Either VLC is only a media player and things like "Lecteur Multimédia
VLC" are ok.
Or VLC is a bit more than just a MPC/Quicktime challenger (VLM ? transcode?)
and then "VLC media player" is a whole and shouldn't be translated.
