I like the first one; the orange stripe in the second one does not quite include all of "Read Me.rtf", and the stripe in the third one looks wrong somehow.  

I don't think the cone close-up is obvious with those pictures, if that is a concern.  I also think the arrow should be vertically centered with the Applications folder, i.e. the arrow should point through the center of mass of the folder.

The step where the .background folder would be created was removed in http://git.videolan.org/?p=vlc.git;a=commitdiff;h=e996b4b4a3cc017cea89f85fa2d80aa165d882b9. It looks like Felix removed it because the Resources folder was already removed, so adding back the deleted code and the Resources folder may get it working again.
