`vlc --vout ggi' should work. However, the ggi mode is probably going
to be slower than plain X; the main interest for ggi is to support a
wider range of output device.

Not really. You may try to change your X resolution so that the vlc
window has the same size as your screen. Or you may try the SDL plugin
(same building method as for GGI) and use the `--display fullscreen'
option.
